NAMBA is focused on addressing fire safety through the development and enforcement of building codes.
As building product manufacturers and fellow citizens, we share the general public’s expectation that the buildings we occupy and use on a daily basis are safe. Therefore, we strive to ensure the safe and effective use of our products within the built environment.
What’s New
NFPA 285 Design and Information
This is the second in a multi-part series of articles on the topic of testing and design for exterior wall assemblies that the building codes require to comply with NFPA 285. These articles are intended to promote effective communication between stakeholders regarding this important fire safety topic for the design and construction of code-compliant exterior wall assemblies.
Fire Safety for Exterior Wall Assemblies
This course discusses the key chapters where important exterior wall fire provisions can be found in the International Building Code® and examines many common features of global fire incidents. The course also describes the NFPA 285 fire test and discusses the new Annex B in the 2023 edition of NFPA 285. Finally, there is a discussion of the code compliance pathways when exterior walls are required by the IBC® to be tested and comply with NFPA 285.
Where to Find Compliant NFPA 285 Test Data
Designers, specifiers, and code officials are unfamiliar with the best ways to locate information regarding National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 285 test data and tested assemblies. This article provides guidance on how and where to find compliant tested assemblies and the extension of test data through engineering analyses.
